Fennel Maple Bacon

Maple Fennel Bacon

This past week I left the diaper bag and baby at home while I jetted off to sunny LA. I attended the Signature Brand launch for United and Market Street supermarkets and learned so much about my local grocery store and the new line.

United and Market Street supermarkets’ exclusive Signature Brand has more than 4,000 products that consumers can buy ranging from toothbrushes, makeup wipes, paper towels, bacon, maple syrup, and ice cream to soups and so much in between. You name it they probably have it in the signature line. At the event, we were able to view and sample a lot of these products and see just how great the quality is behind them. And I’ll be the first to admit that I used to shy away from the store brand items, as I was always leery of their quality compared to name brand items, but not anymore. We even got to meet and chat it up with the Executive Chef Jeff, who is behind the development of a lot of the food products. Right before lunch we sampled the Signature Cafe Tomato Basil Bisque, Cauliflower and Cheddar and White Bean & Kale soups What I loved is the fact that you can take any number of their soups and incorporate them into a quick homemade meal that tastes great without much effort. Throw in some chicken breasts along with the Tomato Basil Bisque or create a pasta sauce with the Cauliflower and Cheddar. Or even better, try pouring the soups over some baked potatoes. The possibilities are endless with these soups.

You would think that after the soups we would be full. No, we moved right into the kitchen to make our homemade flatbreads with a topping bar. I topped mine off with a pesto sauce, roasted butternut squash, bacon and arugula. That just might be my favorite way to enjoy a flatbread/pizza.

Dessert was the big surprise for all of us. Tiffani Thiessen from Dinner at Tiffani’s sat down with us to talk about what she loves about the Signature line and to discuss desserts. She then took us into the kitchen where she made ice cream sandwich cookies and an affogato. Both were amazing and can be done within minutes.
