Grilled Turkey Burger with Avocado, Pineapple and Ginger Salsa

Grilled Turkey Burger with Avocado, Pineapple, Ginger Salsa

School’s out for the summer. That means family trips, camps, reunions and of course lots of family gatherings outside around the grill. This past week I went outside to our plush backyard (due to heavy rainfall in Texas) armed to the nine with bug spray and lit the grill. It was time for burger season to return to the outdoors and who doesn’t love a good meat seared with grill marks.

After a quick trip to the grocery store my refrigerator was now stocked with meats, fruits and lots of vegetables for the week. I took out some ground turkey knowing that it would be grilled turkey burger night, but it was the topping that had me excited. After cutting up some ripe avocados and lots of pineapple I knew that I had my winner right in front of me. I added a little extra punch with some ginger but if that doesn’t fancy your boat just leave it out. It’s almost like a Hawaiian themed burger.

Now don’t be scared by how moist the burger is when putting it on the grates. I promise that it will hold together as long as your grates are nice and clean. Just a couple of flips with the spatula and it’s done in about 15 minutes. The topping is perfect for your burger and you can even pair it with a flavorful cheese like feta. If you happen to have some salsa sitting around, break out the chips and dive in.
