FAQs for Making Scrambled Eggs in a Cup

Can I just microwave a whole egg?

Scrambled eggs work the best for an egg in a mug breakfast. (Don’t microwave an egg in its shell. It may explode – which will make a huge mess and ruin your morning!)

Do I have to use a mug?

You can use a cup, a bowl, or a glass dish (like Pyrex). Just make sure it’s microwave safe. The size and shape of the dish can affect cooking times, so monitor closely.

How do I know when the eggs are fully cooked?

Jiggle your mug after cooking and the eggs should be just barely set. If they’re runny, microwave for 10 more seconds and check again. You don’t want to overcook the eggs or they can taste dry and rubbery.

How do I keep the eggs from sticking to the mug?

Remember to spray your mug with a spritz of cooking oil to make your mug non-stick – this makes clean up even easier!

Can I cook more than one egg at a time?

Yes, but you’ll probably need a bigger dish (like a microwave-safe bowl). Only increase the cooking time in 10-15 second increments and check in between to see if the eggs are cooked.

The more eggs you cook, the more results may vary based on the size and shape of the dish you use and the power of your microwave.
