Borracho Beans with Shiner Bock Beer

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Wonderbag, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #WonderBag http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO

Borracho Beans with Shiner Bock Beer

Patience. It is something that I have struggled with for years. I have been wanting to share this special post with you today for the past couple of weeks.

It’s called the Wonderbag. This heating and cooling bag was created to help women in other countries stay at home with their families instead of cooking meals. Women living in poverty and third world countries typically spend 4 to 6 hours each day preparing meals for their families. That requires them to find wood and other supplies just to cook their meals. The Wonderbag allows them to cook their meal in a pot and then transport it in this bag. Every bag that is sold online a Wonderbag is donated to a family in need in third world countries.

Talk about giving back and that is why I am so excited to pair up with this great campaign.

When I first received my Wonderbag in the mail I contemplated on how I was going to use it outside of the home. The first idea that popped into my head was tailgating. Hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken wings and BBQ is what comes to mind, but what about the always forgotten sides. It is time for something else to take the cake or in this case beans. These borracho beans will be perfect for a football tailgating party or if you have a game watching party at your house. They are THE PERFECT compliment to any meaty dish and you can even dip your chips into the bowl to satisfy your bean craving.

Ingredients

  • 1 12ounce bottle shiner bock beer
  • 2 pounds pinto beans
  • 2 cups low sodium chicken broth
  • 2 slices uncooked bacon, chopped
  • 1 14.5 ounce can diced tomatoes
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 jalapeños, dices
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons chopped garlic
  • 1 Tablespoon salt

Instructions

Sort through the pinto beans to see if any are chipped or cut in half. Throw those beans out and place the rest in a large bowl. Fill it with water and make sure that the water is about 2 inches above the pinto beans. Let the beans soak overnight and throw away the beans that float to the top.

Drain the beans and then add them to a large pot over high heat. Pour in the beer, broth, tomatoes and water. Stir the mixture and then add bacon, jalapeños, onion, garlic and salt. Allow the mixture to boil for 30 minutes and then place in Wonderbag.

Keep in Wonderbag for at least 5 hours.

TO MAKE WITHOUT WONDERBAG:
Follow the instructions above but do not put in Wonderbag. Bring the beans to a simmer and let them cook for 4-5 hours or until tender.
