Do not judge me! We do not cook every single one of our meals from scratch. One thing I noticed about having a food blog is that people expect to have fancy foods when they come to my house. What they get is a nice homemade meal that anyone could cook. This does not happen for every meal. We are a normal family that occasionally goes out to eat or we buy frozen pizzas or meals. GASP, I know!
Whether it is a homemade meal or a frozen dinner you will ALWAYS see us eating at the dining room table as a family. That is something very important to Shaun and me, and we want to instill those same values in our children. The TV gets turned off so that we are not distracted by other noise and we can actually concentrate on each other. Family meal time is so important because I really feel like it can bond a
family. There are so many times when we go out to eat or we see other families who are concentrating on Blackberrys, iPhones, iPads and other electronics. Kids find it hard to have an actual conversation with their parents and vice versa. Dinner time to me is being with friends and family and enjoying the conversation with good food. I can’t tell you how many old family stories have been told at my dinner table…stories where you remember loved ones and new stories that are happening in the here and now. One thing caught my eye the other day when a mom posted a note on Facebook saying how her son sent home a note telling parents to at least have dinner together once a week. I know it’s impossible for working parents to always be home for dinner, but if you are at home, please eat with your kids or loved ones. Bertolli
is currently running an “Italy Is Served” campaign. They have a new line of products centered around single-serve and multi-serve meals. The meal we tried out and really enjoyed was the Single-Serve Rustico Bakes Stuffed Shells Bolognese. They were cooked in the oven for a little less than an hour, and I paired them with a slice of fresh ciabatta bread and a glass of red wine. Check out Bertolli’s website
or Facebook page
to see all of the new flavors and varieties of meals.
